Union Minister and senior BJP leader Giriraj Singh on Thursday slammed the Mamata Banerjee government for the treatment of two Bihar students who were allegedly assaulted by unidentified men in West Bengal. He shared a video of the incident on his social media platform X.
In his post, Singh questioned why the students were beaten and asked, “Are these children not part of India?”
“Red carpet for Rohingya Muslims in Bengal and Bihar kid beaten up for taking exam? Are these children not part of India? Has Mamata government taken the contract of only saving rapists?,” the Union Minister wrote while sharing the video.
News18 could not independently verify the authenticity of the video or its location in West Bengal.
The purported footage, which has now gone viral, shows one of the men rudely questioning the students while another man records the assault. In the video, one man asks the student where he is from, to which the student replies that he is from Bihar and is there to take an exam.
The man then starts to abuse the student, questioning how he was allowed to sit for the exam if he is not a resident of Bengal. He further demands to see the student’s domicile certificate. The students are also forced to do the up-and-down punishments while holding their ears and can be seen pleading the man with their hands folded.
Weighing in on the incident, Arjun Singh, BJP Lok Sabha member from Barrackpore, stated, “Bengali youths can go to Bihar and UP for such recruitments also, what is the harm in it? Many youths from West Bengal took part in the Teacher’s recruitment in Bihar recently.”

“Everyone is free in India to go to any part of India for employment and business. This kind of cheap mentality is very bad for the sovereignty of our country?,” he wrote on X while resharing Singh’s post.
He further urged the Chief Secretary of West Bengal and the West Bengal Police to ensure that such behavior is “dealt sternly”.
Mamata ‘insulted Biharis’: Chirag Paswan
Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader and Union Minister Chirag Paswan accused Mamata Banerjee of insulting Biharis and questioned if it was a crime to take an exam in West Bengal.
“The news of brutal assault on Bihari students in West Bengal is very unfortunate and condemnable. The Chief Minister of that state has once again insulted the Biharis, which cannot be tolerated at all,” Paswan said in his post.
He further added: “I want to ask Mamata Banerjee ji, is it a crime to take an exam in West Bengal? Will the opposition party leaders still remain silent? I want to ask the Leader of Opposition of Bihar, on what basis will you support the Trinamool Congress now. I request the Honorable Chief Minister Shri @NitishKumar ji to get the matter thoroughly investigated and take legal action against the culprits.”
‘Our state is democratic’: TMC
In response to Singh’s allegations, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh stated, “There is nothing like that. There may be some local problem because people from many other states are coming here and many people from here are also going to other states but there is nothing like that.”
