New Delhi: With just one phase to go in the General Elections 2009, there’s still a haze on who will form the next government.
With most political parties leaving "all options open" and scrambling for allies, the wooing game is getting bigger.
Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) General Secretary Prakash Karat says the Third front is in a position to form the government and that the Congress would have to either support it or face isolation.
The Marxist leader also believes the elections would throw up a hung Parliament.
“Congress will be isolated and it will have to take a decision to support a secular government. If Congress goes on asking Left for support, I am telling them that they will have to deal with this combination of 10-11 parties (Left and its third front allies),” he says.
Karat also says he sees Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar and Janata Dal (United) supremo Nitish Kumar as post poll allies.
“Looking at JD-U and NCP as allies post elections, Nitish will emerge as major force in Bihar and he can go ahead without depending on any other party,” Karat says.
Karat also held talks with Orissa Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik on Friday.
The BJD was part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance for more than a decade but it broke ties with that coalition ahead of the General Elections.
It has an Orissa-specific alliance with the Left and the NCP.
