New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday targeted Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and levelled massive tax evasion and corruption allegations against Singh.
The BJP claimed than an Life Insurance Corporation agent received Rs 6 crore in his bank account and investigation revealed that the money belonged to Singh. The BJP also claimed that Singh took bribes from an energy company for an extension in a project.
Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said,"An LIC agent suddenly received Rs 6 crore in his bank account and investigation revealed that the money belonged to Virbhadra Singh. Singh renewed contract of an energy firm that defaulted. His wife's had got unsecured loan from energy firm's promoter. The Chief Minister took bribe from energy firm for granting 10-month extension."
The BJP questioned Singh's income from his apple orchards as the party claimed that apples were transported on bikes and scooters, but it was simply a means to channelise slush money.
Singh denied all the charges and termed it a political vendetta. "This is political vendetta and I deny all allegations made against me. The BJP is targeting me because their Chief Ministers are being targeted, I am being framed. I am totally innocent."
On Wednesday, the BJP targeted Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat and former Arunachal Pradesh counterpart PK Thungon in alleged corruption cases.
