The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took a swipe at opposition leaders on Thursday who were mocking the Centre over water leakage in the new Parliament building following the incessant rainfall in the national capital.
BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya shared a post on X where he mentioned about when the old Parliament’s building was submerged in water during the Zero hour in 2010, then not only, no one accused the British of building the old parliament in a haste manner, but also these ‘Brown Sahibs’ found it aesthetic.
While sharing a news piece about the roof leakage on X, Malviya said, “2010: Parliament roof leaked during Zero Hour and the premise was submerged (water logged is not the right expression) in water. But no one accused the Britishers of building the old Parliament in haste. The Brown Sahibs they have left behind, still find it aesthetic.”

He further accused the opposition of doing politics and claimed that they reminisce the good old days of power and pelf, and scream at their rising irrelevance.
“However, the iconic Central Hall of the wonderfully distinctive and charming old Parliament building now stinks of piss and is not usable anymore. But some people, who have never accessed the new building (wife getting to go in doesn’t count), and can’t get over the idea sniffing up backsides of their political masters, are upset. They reminisce the good old days of power and pelf, and scream at their rising irrelevance,” he added.
His remarks came after several opposition leaders including, Congress’ Manickam Tagore, TMC’s Mahua Moitra and SP’s Akhilesh Yadav mocked the centre over the water leaking in the lobby of the new Parliament building by posting the video of water leaks in the premises.
TMC MP Mahua Moitra said, “New parliament lobby is leaking water. Given the building is a monstrous edifice to @narendramodi‘s ego it is only fitting that it has got shaky post 2024 lok sabha results. Bharat Mandapam leaks another case in point.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore also shared the video on his X platform and swiped at the centre saying that outside the parliament, paper leak is going on (referring to recent NEET-UG paper leak) and inside the parliament, water leak is going on.
“Paper leakage outside, water leakage inside. The recent water leakage in the Parliament lobby used by the President highlights urgent weather resilience issues in the new building, just a year after completion,” he said.
He also moved an Adjournment motion on this issue in Lok Sabha on Thursday.

SP Leader Akhilesh Yadav also slammed the BJP and said, “The old parliament was better than this new parliament, where even the old MPs could come and meet. Why not go back to the old parliament, at least till the time the water dripping program is going on in the parliament built with billions of rupees. People are asking whether water dripping from every new roof constructed under the BJP government is a part of their well thought out design or… “

The new Parliament building, part of the government’s ambitious Rs 20,000 crore Central Vista Redevelopment Project, was inaugurated on May 28, 2023, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The national capital has been witnessing incessant rains since last evening. On Thursday, the meteorological department forecast more rains are expected. On Wednesday large parts of the city were inundated, choking key stretches with unending traffic and leaving people stranded as roads resembled rivers.
