New Delhi: BJP's first south Indian chief minister BS Yeddyurappa who was acquitted by a CBI special court on Wednesday in the mining kickback case told News 18 that it was indeed a rebirth for him and his family.
"Both the Congress and JDS wanted to finish me off. They had joined hands to end my political life. The judiciary has rescued me. They know that I am innocent. I want to lead a happy life after this," Yeddyurappa told News18 over phone from Bengaluru moments after he was acquitted in the case.
The former Karnataka CM refused to speculate on if the CBI will file an appeal in the Karnataka High Court challenging his acquittal.
As of now my focus will be on getting BJP back to power in Karnataka, he said, adding that the judgment had given him more energy and confidence.
"I would resume my Karnataka tour. I will bring the BJP back to power. Nobody can stop me now. Today’s win is a first step towards our big win in the 2018 Assembly elections," he said.
When asked about his previous allegations against some state BJP leaders for entangling him in the case, Yeddyurappa said past is past.
"It is a rebirth for me and my family. Let’s not blame anyone. God knows everything," he said.
"I thank the judiciary and the judge. They have acquitted me. I have always maintained that it was a political conspiracy against me. I had nothing to do with the case. It is also a big victory for lakhs of BJP workers in Karnataka," he said.
"My supporters are happy. They stood by me. I thank them," the state BJP president said.
