Bhopal: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate from Tikamgarh Lok Sabha seat Gayadin Ahirwar was allegedly robbed of Rs 25 lakh by two unidentified persons in neighbouring Raisen district, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place on Friday night on National Highway 66 under Kharwai Police Station when Ahirwar was on his way to the state capital from Tikamgarh in his car, they said.
In a statement to the police, Ahirwar said two motorcycle-borne men in police uniform stopped his car on the pretext of checking it and took the bag containing the cash and asked him to follow them, they said.
The BSP candidate said his driver followed the motorcycle for some distance, but later the robbers disappeared in the darkness with the cash bag.
