Hyderabad: In a strange development three major opposition parties have come together in Telangana to counter the powerful Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
Two of the biggest opposition parties - Telugu Desam Party and YSR Congress - are finding it tough to counter the strong pro-TRS wave in the state and have decided to bury their anti-Congress stand for the time being.
The two parties have joined hands to defeat the TRS in the Palair bypoll. Both have decided not to field their candidates which can help the Congress candidate in winning the seat.
Palair constituency in Khammam District will go for bypoll on May 16. The Congress is trying to retain the seat after the death of its MLA Ramreddi Venkat Reddy.
While the Congress has fielded Reddy's widow Sucharita Reddy, the ruling TRS has chosen State Roads and Buildings minister Tummala Nageswara Rao as its candidate.
The coming together of TDP and YSR Congress has also raised question marks over the TDP-BJP alliance in Telangana.
But state BJP President K Laxman said that his party was strengthening the organisation in Telangana to go solo in the next elections.
