Prohibitory order under section 144 of CRPC has been imposed in the village.

Vijayawada: Nine persons, including a Sub-Inspector were injured when supporters of Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) pelted stones at each other at Sivapuram village in Penuganchiprolu Mandal of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.

Police said the warring groups after hurling stones also attacked each other with sticks. Old rivalry was believed to be the reason behind the clash.

The Penuganchirolu Sub-Inspector was injured in his right hand and was undergoing treatment at Nandigama Government Hospital.

The other injured were shifted to the Vijayawada Government General Hospital from Nandigama Hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, police have been deployed to prevent any further clash, police said, adding prohibitory order under section 144 of CRPC was imposed in the village.

The situation was under control, police added.
