Day 17: Lok Sabha adjourned over JPC demand
Opposition MPs have been demanding the setting up of a JPC to probe 2G spectrum scam case.

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the 17th consecutive day on Monday as Opposition MPs continued to press for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) investigation into the 2G spectrum allocation scam. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day to mark the death of a sitting member.

In the Lok Sabha, Opposition members rushed towards Speaker Meira Kumar's podium after the house assembled for the day at 11 a.m., demanding the setting up of a JPC.

The Speaker then adjourned the house till 12 noon.

When the house reassembled, the Opposition MPs continued to press their demand even as Meira Kumar repeatedly appealed for smooth functioning of the house, saying it was the last week of the winter session of parliament.

A Bahujan Samaj Party member also sought action against those involved in the demolition of the Babri mosque on this day in 1992.

With the Opposition members not relenting, the speaker then adjourned the house for the day.

In the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Hamid Ansari read out an obituary reference for Janata Dal-United member M Rajashekhar Reddy, who died following a heart attack here Sunday. As a mark of respect, Ansari adjourned the Rajya Sabha for the day.
