New Delhi: As the deadlock over government formation continues in Jammu and Kashmir, Bharatiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah will hold meetings with party leaders from the state in New Delhi on Monday to discuss the strategy ahead. Sources said that BJP's national general secretary Ram Madhav will meet the group members one on one and take their feedback.
It has been 13 days since the Assembly elections result led to a fractured mandate with the PDP winning 28 seats, BJP 25, National Conference 15 and Congress 12 in the 87-member J&K Assembly with smaller parties and independents bagging the rest.
BJP leaders on January 1 met Governor NN Vohra and had said that discussions on government formation were on. "The BJP is in no hurry. We aim to form a stable government in the state," BJP state party president Jugal Kishore had said after the meeting.
The meeting came a day after People's Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti met Vohra. Praising former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for his work, Mehbooba said that he did a lot for the state during his tenure at the Centre.
She also added that Kashmir is a "challenge for Prime Minister Narendra Modi" adding that "the unfinished work of former PM Vajpayee must be taken forward". Maintaining that PDP is in no hurry to form the government, she claimed that they have the support of 55 MLAs.
Rejecting reports that her party will start formal talks with the BJP over government formation in the state, Mehbooba Mufti said that no such decision has been taken. "There are no such plans to talk to BJP over the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir. We are in no hurry. We can't compromise on the promises made to the people," she said.
