New Delhi: The final bugle has been blown, the battle lines drawn and after the high voltage campaign for the throne of the national capital ended, the city is gearing up to cast its vote on the December 4.
Nearly 1.12 crore voters will vote at 11,763 polling stations on Wednesday to elect a government. Preparations are on a full swing to ensure that the voting process goes of smoothly in the city.
The Delhi electoral office has identified 630 critical booths on which they plan to keep a close watch though webcams. Besides CCTV cameras, central para-military personnel will be present at the polling stations to keep an eye on any mischief mongers.
"This is the first time we will be introducing web cams to keep an eye on critical booths. 513 video cameras have been installed and 107 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed", says Delhi Chief Electoral Officer, Vijay Deo.
Central government officials will also be monitoring the polling at the booths and report to the election commission. Around 107 companies of paramilitary forces and 64,000 Delhi police personnel will be deployed to monitor the process.
EC has also seized over 1600 weapons along with a seizure of 1600 litres of country made and 758 litres of Indian made foreign liquor.
Election offices are taking hectic rounds at various polling booths to ensure that the polling goes off smoothly. "The response that we are getting from the people in Delhi gives us the hope that there will be an unprecedented voter turnout," Vijay Deo said.
Out of the 1.2 crore voters, there are around 4 lakh first time voters, around 66,11,362 male and 53,20,143 women voters. All eyes are now on the results of the polls as this could be a litmus test for the Congress which has been in power for over a decade.
The elections this time around have become all the more interesting with the Aam Aadmi Party also in the fray. Both the BJP and the Congress are mulling over the conjectures regarding whose vote share will be affected by the presence pf the AAP.
While the AAP is claiming to get over 40 seats in the 70-member seat assembly, it is to be seen whether Congress' conventional voters from the JJ clusters and minorities or even the urban middle class vote for the debutant party.
But all this will only happen on December 8 when the ballot box opens to let us know which side the unpredictable Delhi vote has gone and who finally forms the government or whether it will be a hung Assembly.
