ED went slow on investigation against Lalit Modi after NDA came to power, say sources
The UK had sought information from the ED in June 2013 but even after two years, the agency is yet to reply, sources added.

New Delhi: With Bharatiya Janata Party leaders embroiled in controversy involving former Indian Premier League chief Lalit Modi, sources on Thursday said the Enforcement Directorate went slow on investigation against Modi after BJP-led National Democratic Alliance came to power.

The sources said that the ED had sent a Letter Rogatory to the United Kingdom in 2013 over Modi's financial dealings. The UK had sought information from the ED in June 2013 but even after two years, the agency is yet to reply, sources added.

A search of Modi's premises by the Income Tax department also revealed that he had used at least eight credit cards issued by foreign banks while working as the IPL chief. According to a report by The Times Of India, the cards were not issued in his name and were in the names of his brother-in-law Suresh Chennaram and his stepdaughter Karima.

Both Union Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje are in line of fire for allegedly helping Modi.

Sushma stirred a controversy after she admitted that she had no objection to Modi's request to travel out of the UK for his wife's treatment and spoke in this regard with British MP Keith Vaz and British High Commissioner.

Vasundhara came under attack after it was revealed that she helped Modi get permit to stay in the UK. She had allegedly filed application backing Modi in 2011 when she was the leader of the opposition in the state Assembly.
