New Delhi: Finance Minister ArunJaitley on Friday rebuffed his party MP NishikantDubey who had caused an embarrassment to the government by questioning the possibility of black money returning to India in "our lifetime", saying he will not have to wait for long for this.
"When my colleague Nishikant Dubey spoke (yesterday), prehaps he spoke very well. But he said that black money cannot return to India in his lifetime. We all pray for his long life but he will not have to wait for this (return of black money) for a long time," Jaitley said in the Lok Sabha while replying to a debate on Budget.
Dubey, BJP member of the House from Godda in Jharkhand, had on Thursday caused an embarrassment to the government by saying India will not be able to bring back black money from Switzerland "in our lifetime".
Dubey, who was the first member from the Treasury benches to speak on the Finance Bill, said, "We cannot bring it back because people have formed trusts. Citizens of Switzerland are employees who hold the trust.
"When you ask for money and names, you will seek names of Indians. There is no question of asking the name of the trustees. And if we don't, then how will we get back black money from Switzerland," he said.
The Narendra Modi government had only last month asserted in Parliament that it is "determined to rid the country of the scourge of corruption and the menace of black money" stashed in foreign banks.
