Goa power play: BJP, allies move MLAs out of state
BJP says Cong hatching 'conspiracy' to keep it out of power in Goa.

New Delhi: The BJP and its allies moved their MLAs out of Goa on Friday in a bid to avoid defection in the Goa Democratic Alliance.

The party, which is gearing up to form the government in Goa in the event of a fall of the Congress Government, also

said it is planning to parade its supporting MLAs to the Rashtrapati Bhavan to prove its majority.

Leader of the opposition in Goa Manohar Parikkar later expressed his disappointment over the adjournment.

"The speaker without even making an attempt of convening the house directly adjournes the house within 2 minutes of the ruckus. This very clearly indicates that the speaker and the ruling party, which has been reduced to minority, has worked out a strategy to get 3-days extra and create a constitutional crisis," he said.

The party has been seeking a floor test to prove its majority in the Goa Assembly. The party said it was opposed to the move to adjourn the House till Monday.

Party chief Rajnath Singh told reporters that he suspects that the Congress could hatch a "conspiracy" against the BJP and it allies to keep them from power there.

"If need be, we will parade our MLAs to Rashtrapati Bhavan to prove majority," Singh said. On Thursday, Rajnath Singh had said that the Centre was required to guard against any horse-trading attempt in Goa.

"Adjourning the House till Monday was uncalled for. It should have been kept running. The BJP should have been allowed an opportunity to prove its majority," he added.

His comments came after both the BJP-led Goa Democratic Alliance (GDA) and the Congress-led coalition, which are claiming majority in the 40-member Goa Assembly, sought appointments with Governor SC Jamir.

The BJP-led formation, which claims the support of 20 MLAs, has faxed its claim to the Raj Bhavan. "We do suspect that the Congress could do some conspiracy in Goa, given what it did in Bihar and Jharkhand," Singh said.
