Sultan Ahmed said that the state government knew its duties and functions better than anyone else.

Kolkata: Criticising West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan for questioning the sudden transfer of police chief RK Pachnanda, Trinamool Congress MP Sultan Ahmed on Friday said that he should "behave in consonance" with his gubernatorial responsibilities and not as a "former IPS officer". "The Governor of our state should behave like a Governor and not as a former IPS officer. The state government knows its duties and functions better than anyone else," Ahmed said.

Narayanan, a former IPS officer and National security Advisor to the Union government, had on Thursday questioned the sudden transfer of the Commissioner of Kolkata Police following the killing of Special Branch sub-inspector Tapas

Chowdhury on February 12. The Governor had said that he did not know the reason why the police chief was shunted out, but if it had something to do with what had happened in the last few days, it would have to be looked at very carefully and that clearly something was wrong.

He had also said that the state government was elected by a massive mandate and he presumed that they should answer whether they were capable of running a government or not.
