Hope Opposition will play constructive role in Winter Session: Naqvi
Naqvi said bills such as Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Bill, 2013 are crucial for economic growth.

Bhavnagar (Gujarat): Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Monday expressed confidence that the Opposition including the Congress party will play a "positive role" during the coming Winter Session of Parliament to pass important reform legislation.

Addressing a public meeting, Naqvi said the Centre is "confident" that the Session will be "constructive and progressive".

"We are hopeful that the Opposition will play role of a constructive Opposition and will support the government to pass important reform legislations which are essential for the nation's development," he said.

Naqvi said bills such as Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Bill, 2013 are crucial for economic growth.

"GST has the potential to push India's GDP by one to two per cent. GST is a historic step in the direction of tax reforms and it would immediately convert India into a one big uniform market, which will benefit all stakeholders.

He said the GST, besides bringing the much-needed transparency in taxation, will benefit the Centre and the states equally. It will simplify the indirect tax regime in the country and is expected to reduce cost of production and inflation in the economy, thereby making the Indian trade and industry more competitive, domestically as well as internationally, he said.

Naqvi also claimed that the social, economic, religious rights of all the sections and religions are absolutely safe under the Modi government.

"Social unity, harmony, brotherhood, tolerance is in the DNA of India and no unfortunate incident can damage this social fabric. We all have to keep aside our political interests to strengthen the social unity and harmony," he said.

He said Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2013 and Whistle Blowers Protection (Amendment) Bill, 2015 will help in the fight against corruption. "I am hopeful that the

Opposition will support the government on these Bills rising above party politics," he said.

The minister, who also holds the Minority Affairs charge, said the Centre is ready for detailed and positive discussion on all issues concerning the common man of the country.

Naqvi said the government is committed to make the Session successful and fruitful and is talking to all political parties for this purpose. An all-party meeting has been

convened on the eve of it on November 25 to discuss smooth functioning of the Houses.

He claimed that the NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership has been working for country's inclusive development and over-all progress of all the people.

"Political-social-economic-educational empowerment of all the needy people including minorities is our motive. Minorities have also been moving forward on the path of development along with other sections," he said.
