New Delhi: The water crisis which had hit parts of Delhi was resolved on Monday after the Jats, who had cut water supply to the capital, called off their protest seeking job quota and reservation in educational institutions, an official said.
"The water from the regulators has been released. The two pipelines will be refilled within the next three hours. There will be no water crisis for the Delhiites," Delhi Jal Board (DJB) Additional Chief Executive Officer Santosh Vaidya told IANS.
The members of the Jat community called off their agitation after they were given an appointment with a representative of the central government.
"A 12-member team will be coming to Delhi to discuss their demands with the central government. The central government was requested to look into the matter as it was an inter-state issue," a senior DJB official said.
Protestors from the Jat community in Ghaziabad district Sunday turned off supply to two water treatment plants, forcing large parts of east and south Delhi to struggle for potable water. The Sonia Vihar and Bhagirathi water treatment plants serve about 40 percent of the capital's water needs.
