Chennai: Tamil Nadu has been put on high alert as a special court in Bangalore gets set to pronounce the verdict in the 18-year-old disproportionate assets case against Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Saturday. The police said they were keeping a close watch on the situation that was likely to emerge in the aftermath of the court delivering the verdict.

Jayalalithaa, meanwhile, is making preparations to present herself before it. Jayalalithaa and her aide Sasikala are expected to reach Bangalore HAL airport before 9 am by a special aircraft, which will leave Chennai by about 0800 hours on Saturday.

From the airport, she will reach the makeshift court at the Parappana Agrahara prisons complex by helicopter.

A majority of Jayalalithaa's ministerial colleagues have already left for Bangalore and some more would fly Saturday morning, AIADMK sources said.

Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy is scheduled to take an early morning flight to Bangalore on Saturday and the mayors of several other corporations are on their way to the Karnataka capital.

Sources said the party workers, who are hoping that "truth will prevail" and their party chief will be exonerated, have already stored fire crackers and ordered sweets for distribution.

Meanwhile, the DMK camp, which vigorously pursued the case and had led political campaigns based on it, is anxiously awaiting the verdict as the outcome will have tremendous significance for the state's political scenario.
