Bangalore: The BJP may have averted the crisis by swiftly canceling the membership of Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik. But, the ruling Congress in Karnataka seems to be in trouble after welcoming a 'tainted' former BJP minister Krishnaiah Shetty.
Krishnaiah Shetty was in jail with former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa in connection with land denotification cases. He has also been chargesheeted and the CBI is now probing the cases.
Shetty was housing minister in Yeddyurappa government. He had to quit in connection with a housing scam. He was arrested by the lokayukta in mid 2011 and was sent to jail. He had shared his cell with Yeddyurappa. He is currently out on bail.
The BJP denied him ticket in 2013 assembly polls. He had contested as an independent and lost. In last June Kolar MP and union minister KH Muniyappa had tried to induct him into the Congress. But, he did not succeed after the KPCC chief objected to it.
The Congress in charge of Karnataka Digvijaya Singh has sent a letter to KPCC president saying that Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has approved his induction. It is likely to cause a huge embarrassment for the party ahead of election.
