Mamata demands Prez rule in WB
Mamata Bannerjee has demanded the resignation of Buddhadeb Bhattacharya after the violence at Nandigram.

New Delhi: Three people died and nearly 100 were injured after in police fired at villagers in Nandigram area of West Bengal.

A huge deployment of the police force had been stationed outside Nandigram on Tuesday night. The police had announced to the villagers that they would try and enter the village. This was a planned acquisition.

When the villagers resisted, the police opened fire, killing three. However, main opposition party (Trinamool Congress) chief Mamata Bannerjee claims that at least 20 villagers had been killed in the attack.

She has asked the Centre to impose Article 356 - President's rule - in the state.

Bannerjee also demanded the resignation of state Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya after the violence at Nandigram.

"At least 15 to 20 bodies of villagers have so far been recovered and many more are lying on the roads and fields," news agency PTI quoted her as saying at a news conference in Kolkata.

Bullet injuries were received by least 200 villagers at Nandigram, she was further quoted as saying.
