New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh politics has just entered a new phase and it promises to be as frenzied as it was under Mayawati the last time, if not more.
The BSP leader herself dropped enough hints about the things in store when she vowed to probe all "illegal actions" of the outgoing Mulayam Singh Yadav government.
Addressing a press conference in Lucknow after her election victory, Mayawati said the probe would be done not out of "political vendetta". "The new government will examine all the illegal actions of the Mulayam Singh Yadav government, not because of some political vendetta, but in the interest of the people."
"I don't believe in politics of vendetta. Whatever appropriate action is needed will be taken," she said.
Asked to comment on Yadav, she said sarcastically that "why should I comment on a person who is already down and out. The common people have given him the biggest punishment. What can be more effective than that," she added.
She also said that the Azam Khan episode will be investigated and a high inquiry will be conducted. Police had earlier sealed the office of the senior Samajwadi Party leader and state Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs Minister after his staff tore into pieces and burnt several files there.
Director General of Police Girdhari Lal Sharma said he would look into the incident even as he sent senior police officials to the scene to take stock of the situation.
