Mulayam resigns as CM, targets EC
Mulayam said that the political fight in UP was between the SP and the BSP and that the Congress is a non-starter.

New Delhi: Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav has conceded his defeat in the UP Assembly elections and submitted his resignation on Friday.

Samajwadi Party could only manage to win 96 seats out of 402 seats, for which polling was held.

The UP governor has accepted Mulayam Singh Yadav's resignation.

In a media conference outside the state's Raj Bhawan, Mulayam Singh targeted the Election Commission, blaming it for his party's defeat in the UP elections.

He said that the Election Commission was running a parallel government in the state during the polls and said that the Samajwadi Party had been pitted against the Election Commission.

He thanked the people of UP for their support, but regretted that they did not fully appreciate the policies of his government.

Mulayam said that the political fight in UP was between the SP and the BSP and that the Congress is a non-starter.

“The Election Commission ran a parallel government against the SP. Without investigating they transferred officials. They only consulted with the Congress, BJP and BSP. What they have done is unconstitutional,” said Yadav.
