Bangalore: Former Infosys CEO and Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Chairman and Nandan Nilekani on Monday interacted with students as part of his 'Ideas for Bengaluru' campaign.
Although Nilekani's candidature from Bangalore South on a Congress ticket is not yet announced formally, the former IT czar is making all the right moves to reach out to people especially the youth. He has been holding meetings with different sections of society in the recent past.
Even as Nilekani evaded political questions, he spoke about the importance of having good candidates in elections.
Congress party in Karnataka has been mulling for quite some time over Nilekani's candidature. According to reports, the IT wizard would contest the crucial polls from the Bangalore South seat against BJP leader Ananth Kumar. The seat is presently held by Kumar.
Speaking on LPG subsidy being delinked from Aadhar, he said "Aadhar is a multi use platform. The LPG is just one of them. Government is looking into it. I'm confident that Aadhar continues to have a role".
Talking about the need for an accountable government, he said "We are at a critical stage where we need good people no matter which party. People with clean track record are needed. If you don't meet aspirations of the people, you are setting yourself for a huge disappointment. You don't get this chance again".
Nilekani, who went to IIT Bombay, co-founded Infosys in 1981. According to Forbes he is one of the top 100 richest persons in India with personal assets worth over Rs 8000 crore.
Karnataka state unit of the Congress has unofficially recommended his name as one of its three nominees from the Bangalore South Lok Sabha seat.
He became the chairman of UIDAI in 2009 with rank of a Union Cabinet Minister.
