Ahmedabad: After Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar mocked BJP leader Narendra Modi's prime ministerial ambitions and said a place will be identified for him to distribute tea, the Gujarat strongman utilised the comment to portray his image as a common man ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Modi on Wednesday launched his 'Chai pe charcha' campaign and spoke to his supporters across the country over a cup of tea. The BJP feels that 'Chai Pe Charcha' campaign will help it reach to many new and potential voters.
As a part of the campaign, Modi interacted with people at tea stalls through video conferencing at 1000 different locations in the country. The topic of discussion was good governance.
Modi said, "Bad governance is like diabetes. Once it enters the body, other illness follows. Then there is no sign of growth or development and the people suffer."
He added, "In our country tea stalls are places where people come and discuss issues. It is like a footpath Parliament.'
The BJP had announced the campaign earlier this month. It also has plans to use DTH, satellite, internet, mobile phone and social media to boost the programme.
Taking a dig at the Congress, Modi had earlier claimed that the former was scared of a humble tea seller. "They are scared of a humble person who used to sell chai," he said.
