No mother can sacrifice her child: Modi on Cong not naming PM nominee
Modi mocked at AICC session and said, "Leaders had come to AICC meet to see a PM nominee but they went back with gas cylinders."

New Delhi: BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Sunday took a dig at the Congress party for not nominating prime ministerial candidate ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Addressing the party workers at the National Council meet in Ramlila Maidan, Modi said, "No mother can sacrifice her child. Defeat is staring the face of Congress, so Sonia Gandhi was reluctant to sacrifice he son Rahul."

Even though Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's name was doing rounds as the party's probable prime ministerial candidate, his mother and party President Sonia Gandhi had declared that, "Rahul will not be the party's prime ministerial candidate but will lead the election campaign for the Lok Sabha polls".

The Congress has a tradition of not declaring its prime ministerial nominee before the elections. Modi attacked the Congress for not declaring the candidate citing tradition and said, "When Rajiv Gandhi was made prime minister after Indira Gandhi's assassination, did Congress have a parliamentary party meet? Congress has no right to talk about parliamentary practices. During UPA-1, no parliamentary party chose Manmohan Singh as PM. It was Sonia Gandhi who was was elected."

He mocked at the Congress's All India Congress Committee session and said, "Leaders had come to AICC meet to see a prime ministerial nominee but they went back with gas cylinders." The remark came in the wake of Rahul urging prime ministers to give 12 subsidised cylinders instead of nine.
