New Delhi: More than 90 former MPs and 22 former union ministers have sought more time to vacate their official bungalows in New Delhi. These leaders have requested the Union Urban Development Ministry to give them more time to vacate the government flats and bungalows in elite Lutyen's Delhi.

June 26 is the last date to vacate these bungalows and flats. But, these leaders are putting pressure on the Central government by using their contacts. Most of them are citing ill health as the main reason.

Over 315 newly elected MPs and some Union ministers are still waiting for the official accommodation. Most of them are staying at guest houses run by their respective states. The Central government has also booked 180 rooms for the newly elected MPs at various government run star hotels. It is costing crores for the government.

The list of 'over staying' leaders include big names like former Union ministers S M Krishna, A Raja, Mukul Roy, Kapil Sibal, C P Joshi, Dayanidhi Maran, Mukul Wasnik, Agatha Sangma, Sultan Ahmad, Murli Deora, Jaswant Singh, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Shishir Adikhari.

Former chairman of UIDAI Nandan Nilekani, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and former union minister Murli Deora have taken permission to 'overstay' till October 2014 from the Centre.

The AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and his close confidante Manish Sisodia are also in the list. But, these flats belong to the Delhi government.

According to a top official with the Union Urban Development ministry, of total 260 MPs who lost the recent Lok Sabha election, 30 per cent of them are not willing to vacate their official accommodation.

According to sources, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is against allowing MPs to stay at bungalows. He wants to cut the cost by giving them only flats.

The estimated market value of government bungalows in Lutyen's Delhi is over Rs 5.99 lakh crores, making it one of the costliest real estate in the worldd.
