Polling begins for Bikramganj, Ballia LS seat
In Bikramganj, the by-poll has been necessitated by the death of sitting JD(U) MP.

New Delhi: Polling for the by-elections to the Lok Sabha seats of Bikramganj (Bihar) and Ballia (Uttar Pardesh) began on Saturday morning amid tight security.

Bihar's borders with Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh have been sealed to check the entry of troublemakers, Rohtas District Magistrate and Returning Officer for the election Vishwanath Singh said on Saturday.

In Bikramganj, the by-election has been necessitated by the death of sitting JD(U) MP and chairman of NAFED Ajit Kumar Singh in a road accident in August earlier in the year.

The main contest in Bikramganj is between JD(U)'s Meena Singh, wife of Ajit Kumar Singh, and RJD's Ashok Kumar Kushwaha.

More than 13.11 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise at 1,436 polling stations 607 of which have been declared sensitive and super-sensitive, he said.

In Ballia, too, the district's borders with Bihar have been sealed to ensure peaceful polling. The Election Commission has declared 249 polling booths as hypersensitive and 221 as sensitive.

About 15 lakh voters in decide fate of 16 candidates, including BSP's Vinay Shankar Tiwari and Samajwadi Party's Neeraj Shekhar, son of former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar.
