Mumbai: A youth from Pune created flutter at the office of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Thursday by consuming 'soap water' during the party's weekly 'Jan Sampark' meeting.
Textile minister Mohammed Arif Naseem Khan and Minister of state for Labour Padmakar Valvi were present in the meeting where people from all walks of life had come to submit memorandums regarding their grievances, party sources said.
A group of 20 persons, who were employees of a Pune-based private company whose labour related issue was pending in the court there, had also come to highlight their problems, they said. Suddenly, the youth took out a bottle and drank the liquid from it while the group was talking to the leaders.
He was immediately rushed to GT Hospital accompanied by a party office-bearer and Valvi after foam was seen around his mouth, they said.
However, the liquid turned out to be "soap water" and not poison as it was initially suspected, the sources said quoting doctors.
MPCC president Manikrao Thakre who was present at Gandhi Bhavan met other people from the group who told him that they were being harassed by their employers.
Thakre advised the group to mention the details in their memorandum and the party would take up the issue at government level.
