New Delhi: Ahead of the Monsoon session of Parliament, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is back in action and is reaching out to street vendors.

Rahul met street vendors in West Delhi's Raghubir Nagar area on Monday and discussed problems they face on a day-to-day basis. "The vendors called me saying that they don't have enough facilities. The poor workers here have not been given any space in the city," Rahul said.

The cloth vendors are from Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state, but Rahul steered clear of making any statement on it. Rahul promised better facilities to street vendors and also assured them that his party would take up their cause in Parliament session.

The former Congress-led UPA government had cleared the Street Vendors Bill but the Modi government has suggested some changes to it.

Rahul has been focusing on taking on the Prime Minister and NDA government over not fulfilling its promises and doing nothing to fight corruption. The Modi government is already under fire over Lalit Modi row and the controversial Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh.

The Bharatiya Janata Party hit out at Rahul calling him a rent-a-cause leader. "Rahul Gandhi is a rent-a-cause leader. He has returned from a vacation to go back to his photo-ops," said Siddharth Nath Singh.

On July 9, Rahul questioned Modi's 'inaction' in Vyapam case in which at least 49 people have died. "We all remember Prime Minister's words when he said 'Na khaunga aur na khaane dunga'. What you said Prime Minister should hold some significance. Why are you letting your ministers indulge in corruption. Why has no action been taken against Lalit Modi and Shivraj Singh Chouhan," Rahul had said.

Earlier, Rahul had sat with protesting sanitation workers who were on strike in Delhi demanding regular pay and also met several NCR flat buyers to protest against amendments in UPA proposed Real Estate Bill.

Rahul has also travelled across different parts of the country, taking up the cause of farmers who were affected by unseasonal rainfall and hail storms. He also protested against NDA's version of Land Acquisition Bill and undertook a padyatra.
