Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Subramanian Swamy yet again trained guns at Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan. Swamy has written a strongly-worded letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to remove Rajan as RBI Governor.
Questioning Rajan's credentials,Swamy said, "He is in this country on a Green Card provided by the US government and therefore not mentally fully Indian."
Swamy has claimed that Rajan is responsible for keeping rates high and has also alleged that the policies of the RBI Governor have slowed down industrial growth. "I'm shocked by the wilful and apparently deliberate attempt by Dr Rajan to wreck the Indian Economy," he wrote.
"He is acting more as a disrupter of the Indian economy than the person who wants the economy to improve," he added.
It is not the first time that Swamy has attacked Rajan for the alleged failure of his policies. "I feel Raghuram Rajan is not appropriate for the country. The country has suffered because of the way he raised interest rates saying that inflation will be curbed. He should be relieved as soon as possible and sent to Chicago," Swamy had said on May 12.
Rajan has been very straightforward in his approach and words on India's economic situation.
Describing his job of formulating monetary policy in India as a 'joyful' and easy task, Rajan had said complexities arise when ensuring its political acceptance and one needs to be "a little more clever" for that.
