Goa/New Delhi: The Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh on Wednesday removed its Goa chief Subhash Velingkar, a week after an organisation run by him showed black flags to BJP president Amit Shah during a visit to the state.

Velingkar has been at loggerheads with the ruling BJP in the state over government grants to educational institutions. He has been leading a campaign against disbursement of government grants to schools where the medium of instruction is English.

"Velingkar has been relieved of all responsibilities by the RSS", Akhil Bharatiya Prabhat Pramukh of the RSS told CNN News 18. "He had apparently formed a political outfit", he added.

Velingkar was heading the Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manchto which spearheaded the campaign against the BJP government. BJP president Amit Shah had raised the issue with RSS top brass in a meeting last week in Bhopal which was attended Bhaiyaji Joshi and Krishna Gopal.

The Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch had on Monday indicated that it will float a political party to contest the Goa Legislative Assembly elections which are due in 2017.
