Kolkata: Trinamool Congress MP Srinjoy Bose, arrested in the Saradha scam, has been sent to CBI custody till November 26. Bose is being probed for charges of criminal conspiracy and misappropriation of funds; he is the third TMC leader to be arrested in the multi-crore scam.
Bose has been accused of striking a deal between the holding company of Bengaly daily Sambad Pratidin-owned by him and that of Channel 10- owned by Saradha boss and the case's prime accused Sudipta Sen. Under this deal, Sen is said to have paid Bose's newspaper Rs 60 lakh per month for over 1.5 years. This sum also reportedly paid the salaries of some employees in Sambad Pratidin.
Srinjoy Bose's arrest has triggered a war of words between the ruling TMC and opposition parties. Party supremo Mamata Banerjee defended her party leaders and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of political vendetta. She said, "They have arrested Srinjoy because I went to Delhi to be a part of secular front. I will do it again. We will respond in a democratic way. All newspapers have accepted chit fund ads. Why target only a select few? Do not try to manage MPs. Those who are keen to get managed, should leave my party and join BJP."
