New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar Wednesday reprimanded Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Bandopadhyay for his remarks against CPI(M) member Basudeb Acharia.

"I disapprove of the conduct," the Speaker said in her observations on the matter and hoped it would not be repeated in future.

However, the reprimand by the Speaker did not satisfy the Left members who were on their feet insisting on an apology from Bandopadhyay, who appeared unrepentant.

"I need not be taught by anybody how to behave in the House. If any word in the proceedings can be termed unparliamentary, I am ready to apologise," the Trinamool leader said as the BJP members also joined the Left in demanding an apology from him.

BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said the language used by Bandopadhyay and his behaviour was an "unprecedented" insult of the House.

Bandopadhyay too insisted that the Left members tender an apology for their behaviour in the House.

Leader of the House and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee sought to cool the tempers contending that he had seen uglier scenes than this in his 40-year Parliamentary career.

Tempers run high in Parliament, Mukherjee said adding that he himself had said certain things which he later felt should not have been said.

"I think, to say that such things have never occurred in the House is not correct," he said.
