Telangana: Andhra Govt-officials to hold talks
The government will meet department heads to take measures to ensure the striking employees resume work.

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday asked the Chief Secretary to convene a meeting with all heads of departments to take measures which will ensure the striking employees in Telangana resume work.

According to official sources, the CM ordered an immediate meeting with the heads of Agriculture, Panchayat Raj, Irrigation, Rural Development Energy, Medical and Health and Social Welfare departments.

Chief Secretary Pankaj Dwivedi held a video conference with Collectors of Telangana districts, where life has been affected due to the general strike, in this regard, they said.

Pro-Telangana teachers have decided to resume duties for the sake of students, but will continue to support the statehood cause. Over 15,000 private schools in the region have remained shut because of the stir for the past 34 days.

After successful talks with the Government, 80 per cent of the agitating employees of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd resumed work on Tuesday.

Similarly, employees of State Road Transport Corp in Telangana have suspended their agitation and resumed duties.

Meanwhile, Minister for Secondary and Intermediate Education K Parthasarathy on Wednesday said the examination will be held as per schedule.

Junior lecturers and teachers of private, aided and Government junior colleges have also called off strike and assured to open the schools and colleges soon.

Parthasarathy said the demand for separate Telangana, the issue on which lecturers and teachers have gone on strike, was not within the purview of the State Government.

A decision on the statehood issue has to be taken by the Centre, he said, adding the state will convey the feelings of the employees to the Union Government.
