Chennai: The DMK is planning to go on a statewide 'Fill the Jails' protest on Wednesday in a bid to protest against the alleged foisting of cases against its cadres by the ruling AIADMK.
DMK President M Karunanidhi had earlier reminded party cadres to abide by the party's credo of non-violence during the agitation.
"We have said the agitation will be passive resistance. We have never conducted a violent protest or given it a thought. Party cadres should conduct the agitation in a peaceful manner, following the footsteps of Anna (former Chief Minister CN Annadurai)" he had said.
DMK had last month announced the state-wide 'Jail Bharo' agitation on July 4 to condemn 'foisting' of cases against senior DMK leaders, including former minister Veerapandi S Arumugam, recently detained under the Goondas Act.
The former chief minister alleged the AIAMDK government was waiting to arrest his party cadres during the agitation and said DMK was not scared of the 'threat' of false cases being foisted on them later. He also advised his cadres not to seek bail, if they were arrested while staging the protests.
The DMK leader further urged Tamils across the world to extend support to the agitation.
