Visakhapatnam: YS Vijayamma, the YSRCP honorary president and the widow of the late Andhra Pradesh chief minister Dr YS Rajashekhara Reddy filed her nomination from Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.
Accompanied by her daughter and YSRCP's firebrand speaker YS Sharmila, she filed nomination papers at the collector's office. Both of them launched a tirade against TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu.
Vijayamma, a sitting MLA from Pulivendula in Kadapa distict, is contesting in the Lok Sabha election for the first time.
Vijayamma's candidature from coastal AP has already sent shock waves across the main rival the TDP. Political analysts feel that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has made a very strategic move by fielding his mother from this seat.
Her candidature can have an impact on 5-6 neighbouring Lok Sabha seats. Jagan is contesting in the Assembly elections from Pulivendula. The TDP has fielded its Andhra unit chief Haribabu from Visakhapatnam. The sitting MP D Purandeshwari has defected to the BJP and has been fielded from Rajampet Lok Sabha seat.
Her candidature has led to a near collapse of the TDP-BJP alliance in Andhra Pradesh.
