Women voters outnumber men in Chhattisgarh
First phase of the state's Assembly elections is slated for Nov 14.

Raipur: Women may play a decisive role in poll outcome in Chhattisgarh in this election, as in this number-game, they count more than their male counter parts in at least 32 of the 90 Assembly constituencies in the state.

According to the Election Commission data from the current special revision draft roll finalised in September this year, female voters outnumbered male voters in 32 constituencies of the state, while they are neck to neck in over a dozen other areas.

The first phase of the state's Assembly elections is slated for November 14.

A break-up of the 90-odd constituencies of the state shows that the Assembly segments where women outnumber men are Bijapur, Narayanpur, Konta, Dantewada, Chitrakot, Jagdalpur, Bastar, Kondagaon, Keshkal, Kanker, Bhanupratapur, Antagarh, Mohila-Manpur, Khujji, Dongragaon, Kawardha, Bemetara, Saja, Daundi Lohara, Sanjari Balod, Dhamtari, Sihawa, Bindrawagarh, Rajim, Mahasamund, Khalari, Basna, Saraipali, Kunkuri, Pathalgaon, Dharamjaigarh, Rampur and Marwahi.

In Konta seat, where ratio of women franchisee is 1097 for each 1000 men, the female voters' actual number is around eight thousand more than male voters. In Chandrapur and Dongargarh constituencies, women are just two short of the number of male voters in sex ratio.

Notwithstanding the statistics, political parties, however, appear to have given scanty attention towards giving tickets to women. No political parties have fielded more than ten percent women candidates.

Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party fielded 10 women candidates each, while BJP gave tickets to nine contenders.

The tickets distributed to women candidates, irrespective of party, stand nowhere to the figure of 33 per cent reservation of seats for women.
