Megastar Chiranjeevi’s luck at the box office seems to be at a tight spot at present. His last film Bhola Shankar, which was a remake of the Tamil film Vedalam, failed both commercially and critically. Before that, his film Godfather – a remake of Malayalam film Lucifer – also failed at the box office. The biggest disappointment though, perhaps was 2022’s Acharya, directed by Koratala Siva. The ingredients for the film were perfect. Acharya had a director who had not tasted failure till date. Chiranjeevi starred in the film alongside his son Ram Charan for the first time. Although they had shared screen space in SS Rajamouli’s film Magadheera before, Chiranjeevi just had a cameo in a song in that movie.
Because of all these factors, audiences had very high expectations from Acharya, but it unexpectedly flopped at the box office. Critics came down hard on the film, calling out the outdated and obsolete story and poor direction. Almost a year and a half after the debacle, the makers have decided to dub Acharya in Hindi and re-release it. It will not be a theatrical release. The Hindi dubbed version of Acharya will stream on production company Penn Studio’s YouTube channel from January 11 onwards. Acharya is already available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada languages. It remains to be seen if the Hindi speaking audience accepts or rejects the film. Pen Studios released the Hindi trailer on its YouTube account with the announcement recently.
Acharya is about a Naxalite leader who visits a shrine called Dharmasthali to stop oppression brought on by Basava, a local politician. Within the sanctuary, a young man named Sidda deals with drugs and harassment. Acharya and Sidda join forces to battle the anti-social elements.
Chiranjeevi is currently filming Vishwambhara, directed by Vasishta Mallidi. Trisha will play the female lead in the film. According to reports, Anushka Shetty may also be a part of the film. Produced by UV Creations, Vishwambhara has music scored by MM Keeravani. It is touted to be an epic fantasy film.
