Kamal Haasan-starrer Indian 2 has been creating buzz since it was announced, back in 2018. The filming started in 2019. Due to various reasons, including overshooting of budget as well as an unfortunate accident on set that resulted in the death of a crew member, the film was put on hold for years. Further, the Covid-19 pandemic caused an additional delay in the project. Later, the shooting was also postponed due to a clash of opinions between Lyca Productions and film’s director S Shankar. After a long wait and settling all the issues, Indian 2’s filming has finally come to an end reportedly. As per the latest report, the makers are now planning to release the film on the same date (May 9) as its first part. Indian released on May 9, 1996. An official confirmation regarding this is yet to be released.
It is said that after completing the shooting of Indian 2, S Shankar is currently busy shooting for the third part — Indian 3. Makers are said to be shooting for a promotional song for Indian 3.
Indian 2 stars a huge cast including Siddharth, Kajal Aggarwal, Rahul Preet Singh, Samuthirakani, Bobby Simha, and Priya Bhavani Shankar. Reportedly, Shankar has also brought to life on-screen departed actors Vivek and Nedumudi Venu through CGI and body doubles.
The soundtrack for Indian 2 was created by Anirudh Ravichander. The cinematography and editing are done by Ravi Varman and A Sreekar Prasad, respectively. It was reported that Netflix bought the digital rights to this film for Rs 220 crore.
As per sources, Kamal Haasan reprised his role as vigilante Senapathy in Indian 2 as well.
Indian 2 is the sequel to the largely successful 1996 film. Indian revolved around a former freedom warrior who became a vigilante and took it upon himself to remove corruption from the system.
The movie marks S Shankar’s reunion with Kamal Haasan after a hiatus of 24 years. In Indian 2, Kamal Haasan will portray the role of an aged freedom fighter who decides to wage a war against corruption. The movie is jointly produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies.
