Facebook restored access to its social media website for most users early Tuesday morning (IST), after its third major outage in 12 days.
The latest issue, that impacted both the Facebook website as well as its apps, was described by Facebook as a "Facebook-wide issue." This time the social networking service was down from about 42 minutes according to stats from Currentlydown.com.
Facebook's Messenger services, however, appeared to be working during the outage.
This outage appears to be more severe that other recent instances of the service going down. On September 24, Facebook was inaccessible for about 14 minutes.

Soon after Facebook went down, the hashtag #facebookdown started to trend on Twitter.
Facebook's services now appear to have been restored.
The company's shares closed down nearly 4 per cent at $89.21.
