Other than coming preloaded in the new Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, the new mobile OS will now be available as an update for older Nexus devices.

New Delhi: Google has officially started rolling out the latest version of its popular Android mobile OS- Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Other than coming preloaded in the new Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, the new mobile OS will now be available as an update for older Nexus devices.

The sixth version of the software comes with a host of new features including a Now on Tap feature that instantly shows you relevant information to enhance productivity and help you get more tasks done.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow also aims at making your Android device’s battery more efficient by improving the way power is consumed. A new Doze feature recognises when the device is idle and automatically goes into deep sleep state to conserve power.

Google put to test this feature and found that the screen-off time of the Nexus 5s and Nexus 6s running Marshmallow lasted 30 per cent longer on average. Another feature called App Standby also aims at conserving power by putting seldom used apps into a reduced activity state.

The mobile software further offers enhanced security by allowing you to customise and control permissions for apps.

The Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9 and Nexus Player will get an over the air software update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, while other Android devices will gradually receive the update.

Google said that more devices shipped with the new OS will soon be announced.
