HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play were officially launched in India on Tuesday (February 21) at Rs 59,990 and Rs 39,990 respectively at an event in New Delhi. HTC had unveiled the U Ultra smartphone last month alongside the HTC U Play.
HTC has ditched all-metal design this year to build its phones with what it calls 'liquid design' curved-glass construction, which essentially makes use of glass and metal.
A major highlight of both the smartphones is the HTC Sense Companion, an AI-based system that, according to the company, uses the smartphone user's daily patterns to provide usage recommendations and friendly advice.
"A phone like this, quietly supports you," said Faisal Siddiqui, President South Asia, HTC.
The artificial intelligence technology HTC has incorporated in both devices is called HTC Sense Companion and it 'learns about you and makes your life easier', he added.
It is pertinent to note that HTC has used USonic audio technology, which analyses the shape of your inner ears to adapt to them with a sonar-like pulse and deliver the best music experience one can have.
Apart from USonic, both the HTC U Ultra and U Play are equipped with HTC BoomSound, a Hi-Fi edition speakers dedicated to delivering pulse-thumping audio.
The premium HTC U Ultra features a big 5.7-inch Quad HD Super LCD display (1440x2560 pixels). A major highlight of the U Ultra is its secondary two-inch landscape display with a resolution of 1040x160 pixels.
The smartphone is powered by a top-notch quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM. The HTC U Ultra comes with 64GB ROM that is further expandable via a microSD card (up to 2TB).
In the camera department, the HTC U Ultra bears a 12-UltraPixel rear camera, includes a BSI sensor with laser and phase detection autofocus, optical image stabilisation (OIS), an f/1.8 aperture, and dual-tone LED flash.
The HTC U Ultra runs the latest Android 7.0 Nougat with Sense UI atop it and will be available in Brilliant Black, Sapphire Blue and Cosmetic Pink colour variants.
The device is powered by a 3000mAh battery that supports quick charge 3.0.
The HTC U Play, priced lower than its high-end sibling comes with a smaller, 5.2-inch display Full HD display, and is powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM.
The U Play comes with 16-megapixel cameras on the front and back, but the one on the front comes with an UltraPixel mode, like the one used on the HTC U Ultra. The front snapper comes with f/1.8 aperture, OIS, PDAF and a dual-tone LED flash.
It has 64GB of in-built storage that can be expanded up to 2TB via a microSD card. The device is powered by a 2,500mAh battery with support for 5V/2A charging.
The HTC U Play will retail in Indigo Blue, Black Oil, Cosmic Pink Gold, and Iceberg White colours.
The HTC U Ultra will start retailing from March 6 while the U Play will start selling in mid-March both online and offline channels.
