Are you bringing Ganesha’s idol home this year? As Ganesh Chaturthi begins, people celebrate Lord Ganesha, known for wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. The festival involves bringing Ganpati home for 10 days. In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Sumeet Raghavan, famous for his role in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, said he wouldn’t be bringing a Ganpati idol home this year. He expressed his deep admiration for the festival.
Raghavan said while his father-in-law previously followed this practice for eleven years, it is not an obligation for them.
“This year we are not bringing Ganpati Bappa home. My father-in-law used to follow this tradition, and we kept the Ganpati for eleven years, but it’s not a strict rule. We have a silver idol of Ganesh Ji at home, and we are people who believe in eco-friendly practices,” Raghavan told Pinkvilla.
Raghavan shared that his family typically observes Ganesh Chaturthi by keeping a small eco-friendly Ganpati for a day and a half. However, this year, they have decided against this practice due to “a lot of hustle and bustle” in their lives.
Raghavan enjoys Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, especially the modak (a traditional sweet) and decorated pandals.
“I make it a point to visit all my friends, managing my shoots around their celebrations,” he added.
Raghavan expressed that bidding adieu to Lord Ganesha is an emotional experience for him. He feels that Ganpati Bappa becomes more than just an idol during the festival, taking on the role of a cherished family member.
Raghavan is currently seen in the sitcom Wagle Ki Duniya – Nayi Peedhi Naye Kissey. The show is based on characters created by cartoonist RK Laxman, especially The Common Man.
