A 92-year-old Chinese granny showcased her shooting skills in Kazakhstan recently. Li Guifang, who was a member of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army that fought in the Korean War, performed remarkably well at firing ranges, despite being half-blind due to cataracts in her right eye.
According to a Chinese newspaper, Xiaoxiang Morning Herald, Li was in Kazakhstan with her son Wang and wanted to try her hand at shooting. Initially, the shooting range management did not allow her to perform because of her advanced age. But when they discovered she was a war veteran, they allowed her to use the small-bore rifle that had minimum recoil and was equipped with a sighting device.
Li aimed only with her left eye and obtained 97 points. She hit seven shots in the inner ring and three in the outer ring of a 10-ring target.
A video of Li’s shooting was posted by Wang on Douyin (China’s version of TikTok), receiving more than half a million likes and 20,000 comments, according to the South China Morning Post.
In another round, she scored 87 points. “It’s more difficult for her than for other people. But she achieved pretty good results by focusing all her attention on the task,” Wang said.
Li was a signaller in the Chinese People’s Liberation Army in the Korean War. She reportedly underwent shooting practice but did not participate in actual combat missions. Her son said she remembered vividly everything that she was taught, and she wanted to try shooting again.
“As a veteran, she still has some memory about it and would like to try it again,” Wang further told the Chinese media outlet.
Apart from shooting, Li is a traveller. She has reportedly visited over 60 countries and enjoys extreme thrills such as skydiving.
