9-year-old Bullied in School For Getting a 'Fake' Stanley Cup, Internet Screams, 'Enough'
9-year-old bullied in school just because she got a fake Stanley Cup, leaving internet in a worry.

In the current era, it’s not solely academics shaping the demeanour of our youngest; a myriad of influences are steering kids toward premature adulthood. From kids managing social media handles at the tender age of 5 to witnessing Instagram reels conquering ‘legit’ playgrounds, this generation’s child-rearing methods are certainly unconventional. To add to this oddity, a recent incident spotlights a 9-year-old who faced bullying at school, not over grades or playground antics, but because she lacked a ‘real’ Stanley cup! Imagine, an internet frenzy affecting children who may not even have the willpower to fill their own cups.

The revelation unfolded when Mom Dayna Motycka shared a TikTok video that rapidly gained traction. She disclosed that her 9-year-old daughter became the target of teasing at school, all because she possessed a knock-off Tumbler cup from Walmart instead of an authentic Stanley. Motycka clarified that the Walmart purchase, costing less than $10 (Rs. 830), served as a more economical alternative to the pricey Stanley, which can reach $50 (approx Rs. 4500) or more.

Initially content with the Walmart tumbler, Motycka’s daughter returned to school after winter break only to face ridicule from other girls who had received genuine Stanleys as Christmas gifts.

“And they made sure to let her know that this is not a real Stanley, that this is fake, and it’s not as cool,” Motycka revealed.

Around 10 girls in her class proudly showcased their Stanleys, making it a point to belittle Motycka’s daughter for having a supposedly inferior, fake version. Distressed and ostracised, Motycka, to shield her daughter from further torment, made the decision to procure a real Stanley.

Motycka, in defense of her decision, proclaimed, “That being said, before you come at me, if you’re a mom, if you’re a parent, and you can do something to keep your child from getting made fun of, to help fit in, you’re gonna do it.” She underscored that, despite having the means to purchase a real Stanley from the get-go, she hadn’t deemed it a necessity for a 9-year-old.

The irony wasn’t lost on Motycka, who found herself proven wrong by her daughter’s peers, blaming parents for instilling in their children the notion that it’s acceptable to mock those lacking brand-name items.

Although the viral TikTok video has been deleted, the internet refuses to let the issue slide, echoing a collective outcry of ‘enough!’ One user expressed disbelief, saying, “I thought ud be bullied if you use those cups not the other way around.” Another questioned the reality, stating, “Okay wait this is real…? I thought the whole Stanley Cup thing was a meme,” while a third dismissed the commotion, stating, “Crazy it really is just a cup, people bugging out over it is just unnecessary.”

For those unfamiliar with the Stanley Cup fervor, it has become a cultural phenomenon, with enthusiasts willing to pay exorbitant amounts for a mere photo of the coveted pink cups. Some even go to extremes, queuing up from the crack of dawn for the chance to snag one of these tumblers.

Truly, is this entire hullabaloo truly worth it? After all, it’s just a cup!
