A 23-year-old YouTuber, Vikas Gowda, known for his daredevil stunts on his YouTube channel with 1.3 lakh subscribers, has been arrested and booked by Bengaluru airport police for “breaching security protocols,” according to a report in Times Of India. The incident occurred at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), where Vikas Gowda reportedly entered the premises with a valid ticket for Air India’s Bengaluru-Chennai flight (AI-585) on April 7 around 12.06 pm but did not board the flight. Instead, he roamed the airport premises and recorded a video to his channel.
In the video, Vikas Gowda mocked the security arrangements inside the airport, claiming that he had spent more than 24 hours in the airport without being noticed or questioned by security personnel. The video went viral, prompting the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), responsible for the airport’s security, to file a complaint against him for spreading false information.
Following the complaint, Gowda was arrested and released on bail. The video was taken down and an FIR has been filed against him under IPC sections 448 (Trespassing) and Sec 505 (Statements causing public mischief).
DCP North East, Laxmi Prasad told The New Indian Express, “Gowda has been arrested and his phone is seized.”
According to a senior police officer, Vikas Gowda’s claims in the video were exaggerated and he had actually spent around six hours inside the airport before leaving. Gowda had entered the airport premises with the intention of shooting videos and had booked the cheapest flight ticket to create the false impression that he was a genuine flyer.
The senior police officer went on to state that Gowda never approached the boarding gate after finishing the security checks at 12:06 p.m. and that he had a disguised gadget on him that allowed him to “unlawfully access restricted areas and start taking pictures there.”
Additionally, he is heard boasting in Kannada that he could spend a whole day wandering the airport and demonstrating how easily security could be breached.
His video states that he would stay within the premises for a full day as evidence, but investigations revealed that he left within only 4-5 hours, according to the officer.
The CISF has condemned Gowda’s actions, stating that there is no room for mischief or fun inside a highly sensitive area like an airport. They have pledged to take serious legal action against Gowda for his reckless behaviour.
