Even as elephants are considered mild animals, they can be agitated when they are approached in the wild as they might see humans as a threat.

Liz Duren, a woman born on February 29, 1968, considers herself lucky to have a leap day birthday. Despite being 55-year-old, she has only celebrated 13 birthdays. Liz enjoys throwing children’s parties on her special day, feeling that she gets to be “young forever”. She recalls fondly the first birthday party her family threw for her when she turned four, which reportedly landed her on the front page of her local newspaper. “When I turned 44, I threw a 10th birthday party,” Liz said. “I had a magician and games. I’m 55 but also 13. I can be young forever.”

For Liz, celebrating her birthday in non-leap years isn’t an issue. She celebrates on March 1 but is relaxed about when her friends wish her a happy birthday. She told New York Post that she finds it amusing that she has two birthstones and tries to make the 29th of February special whenever it comes around.

“It’s very confusing for all my friends for when to wish me happy birthday,” she joked. “I’ve got two birth stones. I’m really very relaxed about how people want to celebrate my birthday. I try to make the 29th special,” she added.

As Liz approaches her 56th year, she plans to celebrate with an ET-themed bash, continuing her tradition of throwing fun and youthful parties. She considers herself incredibly lucky and hopes that other leap day babies embrace the uniqueness of their birthdays.

“I consider myself the luckiest person in the world,” Liz said. “I make a joke about myself. I hope they embrace it.”

Despite her age, Liz feels she looks great for 56 but not so great for 13. She also claimed that her leap year birthday helped her track down her birth parents when she was 44.

“Through my adoption documents I was able to work out her high school,” Liz explained. “I contacted people she went to school with. I was able to spark people’s memories with the date. Being born on a unique day was easier to find my birth mum,” she explained.

By using her unique date of birth, Liz was able to connect with people who knew her birth mother in high school, eventually reuniting with her birth father, Harry Bennett, whom she now has a close relationship with, informed New York Post.

Liz hopes that other leap day babies can find joy in their special day, despite the rarity of meeting others with the same birthday. She acknowledges that meeting others with the same birthday is rare but hopes they too can find joy in their special day.
