'Hypocrisy On Peak': Fans Slam Poonam Pandey After Her Old Post On 'Death Joke' Goes Viral
Poonam Pandey recently staged her fake death in a bid to raise awareness about cervical cancer prevention.

An unconventional stunt to promote cervical cancer awareness and Poonam Pandey turned into an overnight target of backlash. The actor-influencer recently took a very strange approach to campaign about cervical cancer awareness by staging her own death on social media. Pandey immediately faced massive criticism from a large section. Fans recently dug up one of her old posts, calling her out for being a “hypocrite.”

Shared back in February 2012 on X (Formerly Twitter), Poonam Pandey was seen taking a jibe at a piece of fake death news about Madonna and wrote, “Trending “RIP Madonna” Hey whatever, please don’t joke at someone’s death… whew! Get a LIFE!”

However, this immediately became a target of the attention of social media users who lashed out at her and questioned Pandey’s morality a decade after posting it. Many took to the comments section and slammed her for the post. A user wrote, “Hypocrisy on peak”, while another asserted, “If hypocrisy had a face.”

“What happened to this Morality Almost 12 years Later,” a user commented, while another mentioned, “Absolutely cheap stunt, whatever the intention was…”

A user said, “Irony died Ironically.”

Poonam Pandey’s fake death stunt

On Friday, February 2, a formal statement was shared on Poonam Pandey’s Instagram handle, indicating that the Nasha actor passed away due to cervical cancer. “Deeply saddened to inform you that we have lost our beloved Poonam to cervical cancer,” the note read.

However, it was a day after that Poonam herself shared a video saying, “I am alive.”

“I didn’t die because of cervical cancer. Unfortunately, I cannot say that about those hundreds and thousands of women who have lost their lives because of cervical cancer,” she said, further emphasising the need to create awareness about cervical cancer prevention. She also shared a series of other posts, amid a massive backlash from fans on social media.

While internet users slammed the actress for her actions, celebrities like Aly Goni, Ektaa Kapoor, Vivek Agnihotri, Kangana Ranaut, Bipasha Bhatt, Tahira Kashyap, and many others also reacted to the same. At a time when the stunt instigated a debate, Schbang, the agency behind Pandey’s campaign also issued an apology while defending their intention.

“To start off, we would like to extend a heartfelt apology – especially towards those who have been triggered as a result of having faced/having a loved one face the hardships of any kind of Cancer,” a part of the statement read.
