Social media is a perpetual meme generator. Scrolling through will certainly bring up an image, video or reference you can’t possibly understand. If you’ve been using social media recently, you’ve probably opened your keyboard beyond average. Because the latest trend encourages users to “look between” specific characters on their keyboards. These posts begin with an extravagant detail and then instruct you to check between the H and L keys, which correspond to the letters J and K–in a nutshell–just kidding. Now, people have used this trend to poke fun at others, including this woman’s boss.
So what did this woman’s boss do? He announced to staff via text message that everybody was getting an appraisal. After that, in the following message, the boss asked them to look between letters H and L—which is, of course, JK, or just kidding. The woman shared the screenshot of the messages on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The caption for the post read, “My boss needs to hesitate.”

What's between H & L ???? pic.twitter.com/l0bU1dN74K— B A S I T (@basit_speakx) May 2, 2024
What’s up with this meme, and why is everyone hopping on board?
It all began on 4Chan, a platform where people post anonymous photos and comments, back in May of 2021. A meme with the description “look between t and o on your’e key bored” was shared online. Yes, the misspelling was intentional. The meme showed a K-On figure.
Now, if you look between t and o on the keyboard, you’ll see y, u and i, which spell out Yui, a character in an anime series involving high school girls who join a band.
Workplace memes, however, are not uncommon. Last year, many began implementing “Bare Minimum Mondays” to prevent burnout, “coffee badging” to get around return-to-office policies and “rage applying” to new positions after being turned over for promotions or wage increases at their current jobs.
Meanwhile, the Gopi Bahu meme dominated the Indian online space last year. An X user previously shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp chat he had with his boss, writing, “Monday getting worse.” The boss started the conversation by asking why he hadn’t logged in sooner. Rather than follow conventional logic, he took a lighthearted approach.
Take a look at his reply here:

Even while his inventive justification was a lot of fun for social media users, his boss’s reply really stood out. The boss shot back, “Mai bhi tumhaare hike ke sapno pe aise he paani ferunga,” in a funny and excellent response.
