In Manchester, a renter made a surprising discovery: living in a luxurious resort is cheaper than renting a flat in the city centre. This finding was revealed by Josh Kerr in a TikTok video that has gained almost 530,000 views.
A TikTok user, who pays £950 (Rs 99,073) a month for their apartment in the city centre, discovered that they could spend just £938 (Rs 97,821) to book an all-inclusive resort in Turkey for 28 nights. The cost also included flights.
In the viral video, he said, “I found out that it’s cheaper to live in a 5-star all-inclusive resort than to live in Manchester. So, I went on ‘On The Beach’ and looked for options starting from Manchester on April 1, just for 28 nights, and for one adult.”
“Start by searching for all-inclusive deals, then set the filter to show the lowest prices first. Check this out – It’s a five-star hotel, and they even include hold luggage, so there won’t be any extra charges for that. Alongside, you get 20kg of luggage and fast-track security. What more could you want?”
In the video, he commented, while pointing the camera out the window, “Here I am, living in rainy Manchester. Look at that guy, he’s got his umbrella out. I won’t need that in Turkey when I’m at a 5-star resort.”
He demonstrated his use of On The Beach to discover a deal for Xoria Deluxe Resort in Antalya. Recent data from Zoopla indicates that the average monthly rent in Manchester city centre is about £1,163 (Rs 1,21,285). Additionally, living there entails paying £1,312.99 for council tax in band A or a considerable £3,282.50 (Rs 3,42,321) for band G this year.
“Even just looking at the place, it’s a 5-star hotel,” Josh remarked. “I mean, it seems pretty average to me, but it’s decent – all for £900 (Rs 93,858) a month.”
One user commented, “Does WFH now mean working from holiday?” Another said: “I work online. I could do that” while another added: “Remote working looks even more attractive.”
Manchester stands out as the costliest location in Greater Manchester for renting accommodations. This is mainly because the rental prices in the city centre are very high.
